The detail that matters most for design purposes is that the color change doesn’t have to cover the whole bottle. Most color-changing drinkware on the market today relies on thermochromic technology — pigments that respond to temperature, typically triggered by the hot or cold liquid inside the bottle. We took a different route. Our process is photochromic: the trigger is UV light intensity, not liquid temperature. For a product category that spends as much time in direct sunlight as it does holding a drink, that’s a more natural fit — the color change is tied to the outdoor moment itself, not to what’s inside the bottle.

On the manufacturing side, we combined photochromic pigment technology with a water-transfer decal process rather than a standard temperature-reactive coating. The photochromic pigment is formulated into ink, printed onto a water-soluble transfer film, and then applied to the bottle surface using water-transfer printing. The graphic is heat-cured to bond permanently with the surface, and a final layer of high-transparency, scratch-resistant clear coat is applied to protect the finish and extend the working life of the color-changing effect.
